14 Feb Mnemonica at EFM 2026: let’s talk Future Heritage
EFM 2026 means a major pace change to us. This year, Mnemonica organized, together with the EFM DocSalon, the Archive Market launch event.
A panel called Future Heritage: securing the future of digital cinema archives, drawing on the Manifesto for the future of digital cinema we have just drafted to raise awareness among institutions and producers about a thorny issue: how digital film masters are not properly preserved but entrusted to fragile, dispersed infrastructures, with policies and practices still largely designed for an analog era, putting at risk not only cultural heritage but also the economic value of those assets.
We have built Mnemonica Archive specifically to address these issues. But unless the culture changes, cinema will continue to be at risk.
The panel will explore how EU and national frameworks can better protect digital masters and related assets over time, and to identify concrete policy options and cooperation paths.
Key topics include
- the roles of rights-holders and technical partners,
- funding and sustainability models,
- the urgent need to align everyday production workflows with long-term preservation requirements
so that Europe’s audiovisual heritage remains accessible for future generations. Industry stakeholders and experts share their perspectives.
Here is the SAVE THE DATE with speakers, place and time of the event, which will be followed by an Apèro offered by Mnemonica.
If you are in Berlin, have a Berlinale or Market badge, and care about the future of digital cinema, don’t miss this important debate and contribute your thoughts!
