02 Jun Mnemonica in Dublin for the FIAT/IFTA PMC Seminar 2026
Continuing our tour to raise awareness and foster discussion on film preservation, it’s now the turn of the FIAT/IFTA Preservation & Migration Commission (PMC) Seminar 2026.
Taking place at the historic Royal Irish Academy in Dublin on June 4-5, this year’s seminar centers around a highly pressing theme: “Digital time: show me how you do it! Recipes for audiovisual content longevity”.
We felt this launch was perfectly in line with our values, so we decided to take part as sponsors and propose a panel discussion on the issues that we care about. The PMC responded with great enthusiasm and helped us put together an outstanding line-up 👇.
Our panel
“Future Heritage: Securing the Future of Today’s Digital Cinema”When: Thursday, June 4, 2026 | 4:50 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. IST
Moderator: Brecht Declercq (Head of Archives, RSI)Speakers: Stephen McConnachie (Head of Data and Digital Preservation, BFI); Sarah Vandegeerde (Head of Audiovisual Operations, INA); Piero Costantini (CEO & Founder, Mnemonica)
The session will also feature three pre-recorded video contributions compiled by the esteemed Richard Wright: Anne Gant (Head of Film Conservation and Digital Access, Eye Film Museum in Amsterdam), our new friend Rossella Catanese (Associate Professor – Film Studies, Università della Tuscia), and our now long-standing friend Thomas Christensen (Lead Curator, DFI).
What we will talk about – The greatest threat to a movie is invisibility. As film production has transitioned to digital, a dangerous myth persists: that professional preservation of masters is an optional cost. Producers often leave their works in an informal limbo, trusting they will always be there. Today, future heritage and economic value float on fragile, dispersed infrastructures. This panel will explore how pan-European and national frameworks can better protect digital masters, identifying best practices and cooperation paths that bring together preservation and access, culture and business, public good and private interest.
