Futura 2026, the technical industry at the heart of cinema: Piero Costantini’s talk
A true backbone of the entire audiovisual value chain. That was the message from the panel "Virtual, post e imprese tecniche: come cambia la filiera" (Virtual, post and technical companies: how the supply chain is changing), held on Thursday 29 October during Futura 2026.
Piero Costantini, CEO & Founder of Mnemonica, took part alongside leading members of the Unione Imprese Tecniche di ANICA, ANICA’s union of technical companies, to take stock of the technological and industrial changes reshaping the sector in Italy and abroad.
The debate, moderated by critic and lecturer Serafino Murri, looked at concrete cases and day-to-day operational problems, from the adoption of virtual production to the continuing evolution of VFX and post-production. As the speakers stressed, these technologies do not only change the technical side: they redefine production schedules, workflows, the creative balance and infrastructure requirements in terms of scalability.
“Anyone who still sees technical companies as an add-on cost at the end of the process is mistaken,” Costantini said. “At this point in the history of cinema we are a strategic industrial infrastructure, alive and essential. If Italian audiovisual production wants to keep and strengthen its international competitiveness, this sector must be firmly integrated at the centre of investment, skills and development policy.”
The event, promoted and organised by Crew Reel AI Services S.r.l., had active contributions from speakers Daniele Taddei, Daniele Tomassetti, Francesco Grisi, Arianna Capra, Andrette Lo Conte and Patrik Gallo. It showed a shared purpose among the companies in the sector: the know-how and the will to invest are there, but making the most of this excellence still requires a system-wide vision from the whole industry.
